A Speech by the Principle of University of Costa Rica for International Cooperation

On June 29th ,2018 afternoon, Eduard Müller, the principle of University of Costa Rica for International Cooperation who gave a lecture named Regenerative development to recover the safe operating space for humanity in 105 lecture hall of our institute. Our director of the institute Wang Jianwu hosted this seminar.
During the report, Eduard Müller represented Humankind has taken a dangerous path with its current global development trends. We are in a time of rapid population growth coupled with overconsumption and massive destruction of Nature. We have crossed several of the Planetary Boundaries, the “safe operating space for humanity”. These trends, potentiated by technological developments have resulted in human induced impacts even in the most remote places. Change is accelerating and increasing in magnitude and consequences making it impossible to be in denial. Communication has never been better, faster and cheaper. We are flooded with alarming news from around the world yet we are continuing to promote degenerative development. In order to reverse the damage and allow for life on the planet to continue – though with changes – we need to implement regenerative development, which is a holistic approach that requires true transdisciplinarity, dynamism and a look into the future, incorporating creative management through the use of climate change and socio-economic scenarios based on a determined territory.
After the report, the teachers and students who attended the seminar had a further communication with Principle Eduard Müller.
The introduction of the speaker
Professor Eduard Müller is the founder and principle of University of Costa Rica for International Cooperation; he has taken charge of this university’s organization development since 1994. At present, the world is leading the way in promoting renewable development, this is a creative way to build a better Earth by using the climate change and social economic situation which carry out overall work in the economic, social, cultural, environmental, political and spiritual area, searching a strategy of meeting global change especially resilience of climate change influence and promoting alleviation and adaption to meet the present challenge. Eduard Müller had at least 35 years of experience in a wide range of five continents and dozens of countries which makes him become internationally recognized as a trendsetter. Eduard Müller’s work involves management and innovation of higher education, and global climate change communications, for conservation of nature and natural based solution, business and biodiversity measures, public-private partnerships, maintenance and development, sustainable tourism, ecological and agricultural tourism, tourism, rural community development, rural development, local agenda 21 and community poverty alleviation management, functional landscape.He has held relevant international positions in wildlife management, conservation areas, the UNESCO MAB programme, development and evaluation of agricultural and environmental production projects, breeding and animal production, alternative production systems and veterinary medicine.
